read me if you like to cook and swear...

Julie Powell: Julie and Julia

If you had been blog savvy back in 2002 you might have caught the online story of this book as it unfolded real time, but the rest of us are stuck with the book version. Essentially, a woman named Julie decides that she is going to cook her way through Julia Childs' Mastering the Fine Art of French Cooking cookbook in a year. For the most part it is an entertaining read - the obvious cooking fiascos, the swearing, the looking for odd ingredients, the swearing, the eating of strange foods only the French would cook in vermouth, the swearing... I heavily skimmed the mostly made up parts that were supposedly tidbits from Julia's life as she made her decision to go to culinary school at 37 in France mainly because they were lame. Stick to the swearing and the massive consumption of butter, and it's a decent read.
