but honey, i can rebuild it. only better....

So, if anyone is wondering if my basement is done yet, I laugh at your optimism. But I have also identified 2 more reasons why the project is taking so long. The first relates to the title of the post.

My husband, god love him, can not leave a crappy finished project be what it is. There is duct work in the basement that is, admittedly, pretty stupidly done, but still, it is DONE. And has been done for a long, long time. Why should we redo it when we are redoing duct work for the actual remodeled bedroom? Because he can rebuild it. Only better.

The second reason? A friend of my mine pointed out that my husband is secretly Amish. Yes, Amish, and it's not just because he has a beard. His frugality has kept him from buying any power tools necessary to move the project at any pace faster than painfully slow. And unfortunately his midwesternism has kept him from asking for any more Amish friends to come over and help raise the barn/basement. Yes, he has been framing the basement with a good old fashioned hand saw. One lonely board at a time.

Amazingly, we are getting close to the end. Once he borrowed a chop saw, table saw and finish nailer, oddly enough, it all went a lot faster. Now if I could get him to just leave the duct work alone...

We can rebuild it. We have the technology.

but do you have the 6 million dollars?

or maybe in this case, the 6 million HOURS?

Pffft. It's the lack of dollars that has lead to the hours...
